Publishing Roles
Editor / Co-Editors / Section Editors
Together with Bright Publisher, the Editor-in-Chief and Co-Editors are responsible for shaping the scope, policies, and editorial direction of Artificial Intelligence in Learning (AIL). They ensure that the journal publishes innovative, relevant, and methodologically sound research in artificial intelligence and educational technology. Their core responsibilities include:
-
Selecting manuscripts that align with the journal’s aims and scope.
-
Overseeing the peer-review process and ensuring fairness and academic rigor.
-
Making editorial decisions based on reviewers’ recommendations and journal policies.
-
Upholding ethical standards in all editorial practices.
Editors are typically appointed by Bright Publisher, in consultation with the journal’s editorial board and affiliated academic partners.
Declaration of Competing Interests
All editors must declare any potential conflicts of interest in writing to the publisher before appointment and update them as necessary.
-
Editors must not participate in decisions about papers they have authored, co-authored, or that involve close colleagues or family members.
-
Any manuscript linked to an editor’s research group must be handled independently, ensuring transparency and impartiality.
-
Declarations of competing interests may be published in the journal when relevant.
-
Editors must also enforce the Bright Publisher Conflict of Interest Policy, consistent with international standards such as the ICMJE and COPE guidelines.
Editorial / Advisory Board
The Editorial Board comprises recognized experts appointed by the Editor-in-Chief to support the journal’s academic mission. Members may serve on multiple boards across related fields. Their contributions include:
-
Reviewing manuscripts within their areas of expertise.
-
Advising on journal policies, aims, and scope.
-
Encouraging high-quality submissions and contributing their own research.
-
Suggesting special issue topics and emerging research trends.
Board members act as ambassadors of the journal, helping to strengthen its scholarly impact and global presence.
Guest Editors
Guest Editors play a vital role in curating special issues, supplements, or themed collections within AIL. They oversee the editorial process for specific topics of emerging importance, ensuring that the issue reflects the journal’s academic standards. Their responsibilities include:
-
Preparing and submitting a special issue proposal.
-
Inviting and coordinating manuscript submissions.
-
Managing peer review through the journal’s online submission system.
-
Selecting reviewers with appropriate expertise and no conflicts of interest.
-
Making preliminary editorial recommendations in collaboration with the Editor-in-Chief.
All final decisions regarding acceptance or rejection rest with the Editor-in-Chief, who may request additional independent review where necessary.
Guest Editors must not handle papers they have authored or co-authored; such manuscripts are assigned to independent editors to avoid bias.
